So picture this ice on a much larger scale and that will tell you what I have been doing each morning. With the temps staying WAY below freezing and mainly in the single digits over night for the past 3 days all the ponds are pretty much frozen. One of my jobs is to take a sledge hammer and shovel and make holes around the ponds and scoop out the ice for the cows to drink from.

The first morning wasn't too bad, ice was about 1/2 inch thick and pretty easy to break up, yesterday it was more like 2-3 inches thick and a bit harder, but still very necessary. In a couple of hours I will "suit up" in my warm coveralls and various layers and head out and hope my face doesn't get frostbite and do it all again. Did I say I love my job?

In other news, we start hauling off most of the calves we have been feeding for the past month or so. The market isn't great, but it beats the alternative of running out of hay that much faster due to 100 extra mouths to feed. Hopefully the temperatures will be a bit more comfortable next week. It is supposed to start rising to closer to freezing and maybe even get above starting today.

Today my Tori turns 17. She is growing up way to fast and is such a beautiful young lady. I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished so far. Her future is very bright! We are having company over for dinner, cake, and presents. She is getting her Wall*E cake and if we don't go to town today we won't be having any ice cream to go with the cake. (I was in town yesterday and it never even crossed my mind. Duh!)

Well, off to get some chores done inside before I head outside and freeze my tush off!
